Royal Rain for the Benefit of the People The royal rain operation has received great success and acceptance both in Thailand and abroad. It is considered to be a way of increasing the water supply for reservoirs dams for irrigation and hydroelectric generation, water source and natural upper watershed Additionally, it helps fostering the forests, especially during the dry season when additional moisture from the royal rain will significantly reduce the risks of forest fires. In agriculture, the royal rain can help increase the quantity of water in river basin of all rivers with less water capital such as the Ping, Wang, Yom and Nan. In particular, in the year when there was a water shortage at the Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit, it could be managed to collect water from royal rain between January 28 to October 28, 1993, which was the last operation day of royal rain, am ounted to 4,204.18 million cubic metres, whereas before the royal rain operated there was only 3,497.79 million cubic metres of water left. The success of royal rain operation to resolve drought in 2010 are the percentage of rain fell on targeted areas of 98% of those operation days and the benefit for 27.7 million hectares of agricultural and forest areas. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives currently set up five royal rain making centres in the different regions of the nation, including northern, central, northeastern, eastern and southern regions. The results of each operations will be reported to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Today, the problems of drought and water shortage have been restored to become bright again by the royal rain making initiative which was conceived by a heart overflowing with kindness and compassion by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, one who has put an end to suffering for the benefit and happiness of his people. 17
