International  Conference  on  Climate  Change,  Biodiversity  and  Ecosystem  Services  for  the  Sustainable  Development  Goals:  Policy  and  Practice 27-29  June  2016,  The  Sirindhorn  International  Environmental  Park Cha-am,  Phetchaburi,  Thailand Message  of  NRCT  Chairman  of  the  Executive  Board Climate  change  is  a  global  crisis  without  boundaries  and  Thailand  is  working  to  build  capacity  in  natural  resource  research  and  management  regarding  changing  climate  as  well  as  in  assessment  to  support  climate  change  preparedness.  To  make  the  best  decisions  in  the  face  of  climate  change,  the  country  also  needs  good  examples  of  the  best  practices  for  integrating  local  and  science-based  knowledge  into  economic  development  and  natural  resources  planning  in  advance  of  decision-making.  The  National  Research  Council  of  Thailand  (NRCT)  has  identified  an  opportunity  to  undertake  a  case  study  on  assessing  climate  change  vulnerability  and  adaptation  options  in  a  ridge-to-reef  setting  that  can  serve  to  strengthen  national  and  regional  knowledge  on  appropriate  study  methodologies.  On  the  occasion  of  Her  Royal  Highness  Princess  Maha  Chakri  Sirindhorn’s  5th  Cycle  Birthday  Anniversary  on  April  2,  2015,  NRCT  has  designed  a  project  entitled  “Watershed-based  Adaptation  to  Climate  Change:  A  Case  Study  on  Sirindhorn  International  Environmental  Park  and  its  vicinity”.  The  project  is  being  implemented  by  several  agencies.  There  is  an  opportunity  for  Thai  researchers  to  exchange  science-based  knowledge  with  US  Forest  Service’s  experts  and  to  help  foster  regional  learning  on  the  methodologies  that  might  work  best  in  determining  climate  change  vulnerabilities  and  option  to  addressing  them  in  Asia.  Papers  on  this  subject  were  presented  at  the  International  Conference  on  “Climate  Change,  Biodiversity  and  Ecosystem  Services  for  the  Sustainable  Development  Goals:  Policy  and  Practice”  held  in  Cha-am,  Phetchaburi,  Thailand  on  27-29  June  2016. We  are  thankful  for  the  support  provided  by  the  Sirindhorn  International  Environmental  Park,  USAID  ADAPT  Asia-Pacific,  US  Forest  Service,  and  other  partners. Finally,  we  hope  that  this  book  is  valuable  for  developing  national  capacity  to  meet  climate change  challenges.  Professor  Emeritus  Dr.  Soottiporn  Chittmittrapap  Chairman  of  the  Executive  Board  National  Research  Council  of  Thailand xii Proceedings  of  the  International  Conference  on  Climate  Change,  Biodiversity  and  Ecosystem  Services  for  the Sustainable  Development  Goals  (SDGs):  Policy  and  Practice  27-29  June  2016,  Cha-am,  Phetchaburi,  Thailand
